We Revolve

JUST LIKE THE MOON
WE GO THROUGH PHASES

Our close friend and founder of We Revolve, Jazmin Lopez PT, invited us to paint at her studio space. She hoped for something that was both vibrant and empowering with imagery that represents mystic energies of healing through movement. We Revolve is a community that aims to provide support in terms of mental, physical and spiritual health. Their logo incorporates the different phases of the moon along with a triangle, which are all symbols that represent change.

Taking all these elements into consideration, we created a scene that we hoped would inspire balance and revitalization. The color scheme we selected was to represent a balance of peace and both masculine and feminine energies.

We carefully chose the elements of this piece to center around the ideas of revitalization and change. The moon represents the cyclical phases of change. The woman in the yoga pose (Gomukhasana Garudasana) worked really well with the full moon. At first glance the combination of the woman and the moon resembles a triangle within a circle, which in the past has been used as symbols of protection and change. This is what initially attracted us to include this pose. However, we looked deeper into the meaning of the pose and felt that we couldn't find a better pose for the composition. The yoga pose Gomukhasana Garudasana translates literally into cow face pose with eagle arms. Gomukhasana (cow's face pose) refers to the art of working with the senses as a means of being in a deeper state of presence of mind. Garudasana (eagle arms) traces the origins of its name to the Garuda, a huge mythical bird with a golden human body, giant red wings and an eagle's beak. Garuda is known to be the vehicle of Vishnu, who is the preserver, sustainer and protector of creation.

We chose the flowers to incite feelings that are empowering yet tranquil. The combination of orange lilies that bloom opal crystals and lavender created the balance we were looking for. Orange lilies represent confidence and pride while the opal brings the full spectrum of light to inspire optimism and creativity. Lavender flowers are known to represent serenity, grace and calmness.

All of these elements are presented by giant golden cosmic hands both powerful and nurturing, a symbol of the divine creator keeping the universe in a constant state of balance and flux.
