The Modern Tea Room
THE AUTHENTICITY AND WARMTH OF THE STAFF IS JUST AS REFRESHING AS THEIR WIDE ARRAY OF DRINKS.
Upon our return to California, we dropped by The Modern Tea Room for a quick break from the blazing high-desert day with a cool refreshment. Ethel has built a genuine relationship with the owners and staff here since before their opening and we always make sure to stop by when we’re in town. We were greeted with so much excitement and warmth from the co-founder Gabby who had been following our travels. Within two minutes of us being there Gabby exclaims, “It is no coincidence that you just walked in today. You’ve got to paint for us!” Say less, Gabby. We were on board before she even finished her sentence. The Modern Tea Room has always been very active in bringing the community together not only with their teas and hospitality, but through events that are centered around the arts. Gabby approaching us to work with them is an honor that really hits home.
Our challenge was to create a series across four planters that represented different aspects the The Modern Tea rooms offers. Our imagination went all over the place as we sat at their patio space and discussed possible ideas. We figured since our imagination went this way and that, why not let it? The Modern Tea Room really feels like an oasis of the high-desert; an escape from the dry heat and hustle of the day. As we sipped away the thirst, we let their drinks take us to other places. So with the four planters we wanted each to represent a different kind of oasis that are all curated by The Modern Tea Room experience.
